Blog #1 - Pre-Project
Hello! Welcome to my Hawken Project blog!
For the next 3 weeks, I will be making a mockumentary about a fictitious club (Hugging Club) trying their best to adjust to COVID-19 protocols and exceptionally low membership. My group and I were inspired by our own lived experiences of being involved in clubs during this pandemic, as well as our collective improvisation training and general interest in writing, acting, directing, and producing films. Personally, I have been involved in smaller-scale improv and film projects for many years, but I have never attempted something at this level. Luckily, I have some extra filmmaking experience under my belt this year from being involved in HPS's two virtual COVID-safe multimedia film productions. I really hope we are able to make a high-quality final product, and more importantly to broaden our abilities as artists. This will require discipline, structure, and commitment to the work we are doing, which I think are all reasonable goals. We have already been meeting weekly for several months to do preliminary character development and sketch writing, and now we are just about ready to film. Using the old health room as our home base and set, we will spend the next three weeks filming and editing our mockumentary, fleshing out improvisation skills, and doing informal research on the power of comedy as a beacon through hard times.
Hope you enjoy the journey! (And ideally the show!)
Love the premise of a hugging club during covid! Looking forward to not only the final product but also following your groups journey over the next couple of weeks!
